Fishing Report

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources reminded anglers Wednesday in its weekly fishing report that bass season remains closed. Regulations state that anglers may not take or attempt to take any species during the closed season. Bass season does not open until May 29.

Southeastern Lower Peninsula

High winds and rain have kept most anglers off Lake Erie, the DNR said in its report. Some walleye have been caught when jigging minnows near the Toledo Light House and Turtle Island. Few perch have been caught.

Water temperatures in the Detroit River have been about 50 degrees. In the Trenton Channel, walleye have been caught when trolling in 12 feet of water with Pencil Plugs in the evenings.

Near Wyandotte, anglers have been trolling or jigging near the bottom in waters 20 feet deep near the launch site. The fish have been holding close to the bottom. Anglers have been drifting artificial minnows in 12 to 14 feet of water around Mud Island.    more areas...
