Students learn about water hazards


Terry Smith will take a lot of what he learned Friday morning back to the beach with him this summer when he spends time splashing in Lake Michigan.

But while the things he learned Friday about rip currents and life jackets will keep him safe, it was something not related to beach safety that will stick with him the most.

"What I learned most was that Chicago is right there," the 14-year-old Michigan City Junior High School student said as he looked past the lighthouse to the visible white antenna atop the Sears Tower across Lake Michigan.
