HMS Detroit may be sailing back on course


AMHERSTBURG - The HMS Detroit tall ship project's 160-ton steel hull is being liberated, 17 months after shipbuilder Hike Metal Products seized it for unpaid bills.

The two sides in the legal dispute over how much was actually owed have reached an out-of-court settlement, Vicky Bondy, executive director of the $4.9-million project, said on Wednesday.

The $1.2-million hull was the first phase of a three-phase project to create a replica of the HMS Detroit flagship built in Amherstburg during the War of 1812 and captured by the Americans during the Battle of Lake Erie.    more...
